Sub-series 1.1: Correspondence, 1925-1961

 Sub-series

Scope and contents

Sub-series 1.1 consists of a range of letters, invitations, cards, and telegrams sent to Sir Clive and Lady Sidney McPherson. It includes congratulatory correspondence from when Sir Clive McPherson was awarded a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1925, appointed to the Commonwealth Bank Board in 1940, and awarded a Knighthood in 1941. It is primarily personal correspondence, although there is also some professional correspondence, especially in relation to invitations to formal events.

General note

Due to the interconnected nature of the material in the collection, although this sub-series focuses on correspondence, there are also letters and other forms of correspondence present in other sub-series. For example, where letters and telegrams were located with other personal papers or relate to business transactions, the documents have been kept together and are located in other sub-series.

Processing information

The initial folders of correspondence have been grouped by award. The letters and telegrams received on being appointed to the Commonwealth Bank Board and on being awarded a Knighthood were arranged in alphabetical order prior to the collection coming to the library. This order has been maintained in the folders. Subsequent folders contain unordered correspondence and have a mixture of formats, subjects, and correspondents.
