Vali Myers visual diary, H2021.36 (LTBOX/MYERS Box 21), includes a copy of a letter to Bobby Yarra dated 28 May 2002 in which Vali described the drawing 'Widow Bird' indicating: it began as a profile sketch of my Mother when she was a girl. 'I carried it with me on my travels. One day I began to work on it again - inspired by a poem of Catullus about Lesbia. The woman he loved and her love for her sparrow.'
