General note

The original architect is unknown. The Clyde Hotel first appears in Sands & McDougall Melbourne Directory in 1866, John Graham proprietor. Tenders required for additions to the Clyde Hotel, corner of Cardigan and Elgin Streets, Carlton, see Argus 1.3.1878, p 2. Another advertisement from G. Ravenscroft, architect: Tenders wanted for small additions & repairs, painting, papering, etc. to the Clyde Hotel, Carlton, for the Union Trustees Co. see Argus 4.10.1886, p 3.
