General note
Recruitment of SAP members was very brisk from February, 1994, and amongst the new recruits were members who possessed legal training.
On November, 1994, a meeting was scheduled for the Save Albert Park Legal Team, involving the St. Kilda Legal Service and the Port Melbourne/South Melbourne Legal Service. The Notice invited 'all those arrested... to attend for legal queries... every second Tuesday... '. The Notice of Meeting was issued by Simon Northeast of the Fitzroy Legal Service.
The outcome of this Notice was the Group referred to as the 'New Legal Group' in subsequent documents, the first Minutes, 'Notes of Meeting' of which are dated 15 December, 1994. Margaret Gillespie was the Convenor and Simon Northeast, the Council representative. [A Legal Working Group convened by Christine Hunt, operated from April - November, 1994, see material in Boxes 45/5 and 45/6].
On 13 May, 1997, Harry Ward collected a box of documents from the Fitzroy Legal Service. These documents represent some of the activities of the Fitzroy Legal Service which provided advice and legal support to SAP in late 1994 and 1995.
