1. ABC of Space. London: Independent Television Publications, 1969. Hardcover, unpaginated. Cover coated with grey-blue paint. Page torn out towards the end, but otherwise apparently intact.

2. Adam Adamant Annual 1968. Hardcover, 93pp. Title on spine. Second-hand copy, apparently intact.

3. *The Adventure Annual. London: The Popular Press, [n.d.] (1950s; 1953? – see comment below) Bound volume, 189 pp. NB story on pp.57ff. mentions the conquest of Mount Everest in May 1953 (noted on cover as “Latest Mt.Everest story”): suggests likely date of publication. -flyleaf missing (possibly same as inside back cover?) -images clipped from pp.75/76 & 77/78 (comic strip about robots) -images clipped from pp.107/8, 109/10 & 113/114 (comic strip about cops and robbers) -images clipped from pp.181/182 & 183/184 (“Doll Man” comic strip). NB this originally included the source image used for Arkley’s painting Ever Feel Like Drowning 1987 (for image and details, see http://arkleyworks.com/?p=1240), and related working drawings reproduced in Crawford & Edgar’s Spray (1997), p.68.

6. *Chatterbox 1928. Wells Gardner Darton & Co. Ltd. [England]. Hardcover, c.316 pp. Title page missing. Signed inside front cover: “Jack Arkley” (Howard Arkley’s father, d.1976). Stories and informative articles, illustrated throughout with black-and-white line-drawings (and a few colour plates). Paperback, unpaginated. -Cover annotated by Arkley in black fibre-tipped pen: “See Ref marked pp // organic edge white border // soft pastel colours // Strong contrasts” -Post-it tag marked “Ref” on page including two typical illustrations.

9. Geometrical Design Coloring Book: 46 Original Designs by Spyros Horemis. New York: Dover, 1973. Paperback, 46pp. Apparently intact.

10. The Girl’s Own Annual vol.XIX (1897-1898). Bound volume, c.830 pp. (last few pages of index missing). Wrapped in plastic. No apparent markings or clippings, but there’s a marker (a piece of paper dated 1985) between pp.608 and 609.

11. Girls’ World Annual 1971. London: Odhams Books, 1970. Hardcover, unpaginated. Apparently intact (but back cover has come away).

16. *June Book 1963. [England]: Fleetway Publications, 1962. Bound volume, 126 pp. -pp.11-16 missing -p.81 tagged (illustration with heavy black shadow) -p.115/116 missing (from story “Dixie of Dockland”, by J.W.Tennison): NB this included the source image used for Arkley’s composition Felony (versions on paper from 1982 and 1983, and canvases from 1983 and 1987): see now Gregory, Carnival in Suburbia (2006), p.122, fig.4.19 (reproducing the source image) and fig.4.20 (Arkley’s 1983 work on paper [Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney]).

22. *Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends Colouring Book. Melbourne: Budget Books, 1988. Paperback, unpaginated. -Cover annotated by Arkley in black fibre-tipped pen: “Idea for cut up book”, with additional detailed notes on taped-on sheet, re two separate ideas – 1. a combination of two books in one, and 2. The addition of celluloid pages with photocopied imagery. -Inside, several pages clipped and cut, and a celluloid sheet with a lathe image is inserted approximately half-way through the book. -Back cover clipped

23. Visual Illusions Coloring Book: 31 Original Designs by Spyros Horemis. New York: Dover, 1973. Paperback, 30 pp. Several pages ticked, some slightly altered, some inserted clipped images: -title page (loose) slightly modified with black ink and white-out -p.1 ticked, and black dot added to image -p.3 ticked, and several clipped images inserted (two photos of spiders, and an oriental statue) -pp.6/7: clipped photo of candlestick inserted -pp.9, 13-17, 19, 21-24 and 27 all ticked -p.31 removed? -Inside back cover (colour image) ticked
