Scope and contents
This file contains 6 issues of Bluestocking (1977 to 1982), the main publication of the Australian Women's Education Coalition (AWEC). Included in the file are materials on sexist teaching conditions and sexism within the classroom. Most of these were developed by the Women in Education Group (WIEG), which was an offshoot of the Working Women's Coalition (WWC). The file also contains a 1975 issue of the Technical Teacher's Association of Victoria (TTAV) newspaper Associate News; minutes of a TTAV Sexism Committee meeting; conference reports; a submission from the State College of Victoria to the Premier's Status of Women Committee entitled "An examination of opportunity between the sexes in Victorian Technical Schools', 1976; and a 1976 submission from a sub-committee of the TTAV that argues for the elimination of single-sex education and an implementation of co-education values in existing technical colleges.

Biographical / Historical
Australian Women's Education Coalition (AWEC) was an early lobby group for the education of women and girls, established in the early 1970s. Women in Education Group (WIEG) was an offshoot of the Working Women's Coalition (WWC). The focus of the Women in Education Group was the conditions of female teachers in urban and rural schools. The coalition formed in 1973 and operated out of the Women's Liberation Office in 16 Little LaTrobe Street.
