Photographs of the Balfour family dating back to the early 1900s. Includes a large number of individual, group and family portraits; scenic views of bushland, coastlines, mountains, rivers, lakes and waterfalls in Victoria; residential properties and their gardens, pastoral properties and activities, churches and other public buildings; views of Victorian towns and some city street scenes; recreational and social events including bushwalking and picnics; travel photographs, including Hobart and international locations (Italy, Switzerland and United Kingdom).

Biographical / Historical

Henry Rainy Balfour (1875-1962), Presbyterian missionary and anthropologist, was the son of James Balfour (1830-1913), prominent Victorian merchant and parliamentarian, and Frances Balfour (nee Henty, 1838-1925), of the pioneering Henty family.
