Scope and contents

Shows five portraits of Vali Myers and a central winged figure inspired by New Guinean Sepik masks. Lammas Tide is reproduced and described by Vali Myers in 'Vali Myers Drawings : 1949-79' (London, Open House, 1980), p. 30-31: 'This drawing, begun in Paris and finished in Italy, was to take me 6 years to complete. It was like a rebirth of my spirit, a waking up again. Lammas Tide was the name of an old Pagan festival that fell on the 1st August, eve of my birthday. It is dedicated to my first animal friends, a white cat called Mimi and Beshlie, a red goat. The signature, 'Fabre Vince', is the name of my great grandfather, Captain of a wheat boat that sailed between England and New Zealand in the last century.'
