Series 3: Artworks - Sketches by Vali Myers, 1970 - 2002
Scope and contents
There are 18 sketches in this series. They are numbered H2019.53/17-33A, H2021.37, LTBOX/MYERS Box 22 (The visual diaries are housed in Box 1-21). The sketches on the reverse side of the paper have been numbered with an ‘A’. Included here are sketches such as ‘Tattooed face with goat’, ‘Nothing worse than a life dying slow – Dee Dee Ramone, Hotel Chelsea’, ‘Flying Pig’ and ‘Beware of the dogs’, which are the more finished drawings in the series, as well as some rough pencil sketches of faces and figures. There are also patches of watercolour and strokes of pen and ink mark making on Italian handmade paper.
Together with the more finished sketches listed here, they show her unique self taught technique, giving an insight into how Vali builds up each drawing with pencil, pen, ink and watercolour.
