Scope and contents
Shows a portrait of a woman with red hair wearing decorative earrings and surrounded by 3 toads in the bottom corners and above her face. Ann White (1771-1820) was transported to Australia for stealing four yards of printed cotton, arriving in Sydney in 1790.
Described by Gianni Menichetti in 'Notes about Vali's drawings in this book' (YMS 16336, Box 6/3): Vali's imaginary portrait of her ancestor, Ann White, a convict sent to Australia, where she arrived in 1790. She met up with Kennedy Murray (see Thorn Bird) on Norfolk Island in 1795. The three demon-like creatures are female toads.
