Scope and contents
Shows a central figure of a woman with a tattooed face and flowing red hair and bare breasts. Her hand is raised. Above her is a whale hunting scene with the whale hunters harpooning the great white whale, with blood pouring from its wounds into the swirling sea.
Described by Gianni Menichetti in 'Notes about Vali's drawings in this book' (YMS 16336 Box 6/3): One of Vali's many extraordinary whale-hunting 'Moby Dick' scenes. Nikivik, the Under-the-Sea-Goddess of the Eskimo people, in a rage for the taboos broken against her creatures. When hunters would break a taboo, she would withhold her bounty and curse them and their tribe.
