Scope and contents
Shows a figure of a woman with red hair, a self portrait, with a man beside her. Around the faces of the couple are scenes of Il Porto, with the domed pavilion, a raven and Sheba the dog, with tiny figures of animals, a stream and a view looking out to Galli Island.
Described by Gianni Menichetti in 'Notes about Vali's drawings in this book' (YMS 16336, Box 6/3): The Tinkers are a Gypsy-like people from Ireland, mostly smiths and horse-dealers. They call themselves 'travellers' and aborigines, and they have a taboo about eating hedgehog. Vali's self-portrait with John Power, her Irish friend, and her beautiful dog Sheba which she brought back from New York City to the Valley in 1992.
