'Indonesia Calling', is a film edited and directed by Joris Ivens and co-written with Catherine Duncan. The film, made in 1946, was clandistinely shot around the Sydney Harbour whilst Joris Ivens was in Sydney, having been contracted by the Dutch government to make a film about the return of the Dutch to Indonesia. The narration is by Catherine Duncan and Peter Finch, with cinematography by Marion Michelle. The film was produced by the Waterfront Unions of Australia. The documentary tells the story of Australian unions in post-war Sydney, who were campaigning for independence for Indonesia from the Dutch. The unions carried this out by refusing to load or unload the Dutch ships involved in transporting armaments and troops for the Dutch military forces. VHS tape, 23mins. b/w.
