Scope and contents

Includes correspondence relating to Australian literature, the Bread and Cheese Club, family and miscellaneous; also drawings and poems, some of which are probably by Turner, ephemera, and published material, catalogues, press cuttings mainly on Australian literature and art, and material relating to the Henry Lawson Memorial and Literary Society. Also photographs and photographic negatives. Also Miners rights issued to William McGee, Tasmania, between 1929 and 1930. Includes a copy of the Twenty Melbourne Painters Society 29th Annual Exhibition catalogue, 1947; Paintings by Bertram Bryning, Velasquez Gallery, 1944, and an issue of The artist, a journal devoted to the interests of the graphic arts and sculpture, vol. 1, no. 2, July 25th, 1941. Also 3 printing blocks.

Biographical / Historical

E. J. Turner was an artist. A Henry Lawson enthusiast and collector of Australiana, he was a member of the Bread and Cheese Club, Hon. Sec. of the C.J. Dennis Memorial Committee and a committeeman of the Jindyworobak Club.
