This collection includes papers, newsletters, bulletins and the like relating to the many activities Mary Owen has been involved with. These include women’s issues and social welfare issues such as pensioners, the homeless, and the unemployed. Also included are diaries and miscellaneous files.

Biographical Information

Mary Owen left school at 15, she helped found the Women’s Electoral Lobby (WEL), (Member since 1972), and was the Convenor of Workforce and Retraining Action Group. With Sylvie Shaw, Mary Owen was a co-founder and co-ordinator of the Working Women’s Centre (1975-1983?) and a Social Welfare Research Officer for the ACTU (1984). She was on United Nations National Status of Women Committee as well as the National Council of Women member of Employment Standing Committee. She completed an Arts Degree majoring in psychology and economics (?) and was awarded the OAM in 1984 for services to women.
