General note
Title transcribed from the label on "no.2" book. Two paperbound foolscap journals labeled "No.1 Book" and "No. 2", containing two drafts of historical memoirs. The order of these reminiscences is complex. A note on p.1 of No.2 book says "Number 2 book begins and goes on to page 32. Then is transferred to book No.1". The label on No.1 book says “No.1 book cancelled to page 30 inclusive”. The order is therefore: First draft - Book no. 1, pp.1-30; Second draft - Book no.2, pp.1-32; Book no.1, pp.31-72. The labels on both books and a note on the final page (p.72) of book no. 1 refer to a continuation in "Book no.3", but no such volume is held in this collection. Insertions: No.1 pp. 36, 38, 41, 44, 49, 53, 69. No.2 pp. 16, 21, 26, 32.
