 Item — box-folder: 599.2(l)

Dates

  • 23 August, 1865

General note

Addressed, Carlton Gardens, Melbourne. Was hoping to be able to remit some of this year's grant for purchase of pictures.

Money supplies have stopped until there is some accomodation between the upper and lower houses of Parliament.

Hoping that this year's grant and that for 1866 will come together so that they can be remitted.

Sending him a report of the fine arts commission recommending the commissioning of large paintings from well known painters.

Knows that Pasley is reluctant to ask Sir Charles Eastlake about the gift of the plate the commission wish to present to him. As funds have been set aside the commission wish to know definitely Sir Charles' answer.

Otherwise the sum will be put with other funds for the purchase of copies of pictures with which he hopes Pasley will assist them.

The best way to get a new building for the gallery is to fill the present one. Sending a letter for the Crown Agents if Sir Charles refuses the present. (5 pages, including postscript. Draft)
