General note

Addressed, Carlton Gardens, Melbourne. Regrets not replying earlier to Chapman's questions, but part of the reason is the way in which the university books are being kept.

The virtues of the late Registrar, Mr. James, in comparison to the present one, A'Beckett, who could not find the petition which the council desired to send to the Queen, re the rank accorded to Melbourne University graduates.
