General note

Addressed, Carlton Gardens, Melbourne. Intended making a speech on the University degree day, but as there was only on receiving a degree, Barry decided that it was not a suitable occasion.

Sending him two thousand pounds to buy art.

Hoping to obtain Parliamentary papers. Sorry that Tulk was not sent home, and that Childers has to do much Trustee work. Suggests that he employ Wornum to help him.

Has been warned of the casts in the Crystal Palace museum; advising Childers not to get invovled with these people. Urges him to make the Committee work "besides dining together".

The new wing of the library to be opened by Sir Henry Barkly on the Queen's birthday.

Mr. Nichol resigned his seat on the University Council. Barry's difficulty in forming a quorum at meetings but does not wish to hand in Childers' resignation yet.
