Martin, Arthur Patchett, London, to Marion Clarke, 4 April, 1884

 Item — box-folder: 455.2

Abstract

Moncure Conway has apologised for his article, and done everything in his power to undo the harm he has done. Marcus Clarke appears to have had many enemies. Hopes Mrs. Clarke will show she bears no ill-will and suggests that Henry Gyles Turner could advise her. Sir Andrew Clarke's has regard for Marcus and his previous feeling was that she should take legal proceedings. If Martin had not dealt immediately with the story, he could not have published his article on Marcus Clarke in Temple Bar, as he would have been accused of suppressing facts. (4 pages)
