Note:
William Riddell Birdwood was created Baron Birdwood of Anzac and Totnes in 1919. He wrote from Peterhouse, Cambridge, England, in reply to a letter from Helena Cass in which she enquired about getting in touch with officers in India during her forthcoming lecture tour there. His letter of recommendation for her is included. Also, a handwritten letter from Birdwood to Helena Cass, 28 February [1938] ; the original envelope addressed in his hand ; and a slip of paper with a typed list of suggested clubs in India.
