General note

Circa early 1997, a number of environment and heritage groups held a series of meetings to discuss the formation of a combined group to protect parklands at risk. The immediate focus of this coalition was the proposed development at Wilson's Promontory. A group 'Hands off our Parks' (HOOP) was formed as a result.

These groups had also been working on a Parklands Code.

A HOOP Conference was held in October, 1997, and from the conference a revised Steering Committee actively recruited representatives of local group Ccmpaigns. The result was the 'Parklands Defence Council' (PDC) and 'Hands off our Park' remained the slogan. The first meeting of the Parklands Defence Council was held in June, 1988.

These papers were kept by Margot Carroll.
