General note

A vigil near Albert Park lake was maintained by SAP from approximately November, 1994, and was moved from place to place wherever demolition or construction work might need to be monitored, or if interruption of the work was intended. Then a fixed vigil site near Albert Road and Aughtie Drive was established from approximately 26 December, 1994. Subsequently, the vigil site was moved to a site opposite the AGPC Office. A large umbrella and banners were erected each day.

SAP members involved in the vigil were encouraged to record any events in the park and the demeanor of visitors to the site. A mobile telephone was part of the equipment, so that urgent calls could be made in the event of a perceived potential or unpleasant incident.

After being maintained for over 11 years, the formal vigil was discontinued in late March, 2006. However, informal morning teas continued to be held at the old vigil site, usually on a monthly basis.
