Warren, C.SS.R., Clement’s College, Galong, N.S.W.; correspondence Crowe with Warren including 6 Sept. 1957, in which Warren advises he cannot write the required article because the Constitutions forbid it, his work for the N.C.R.M in various places amounts to the final stage of the Jocist technique, and conveys his conclusions about Catholic Action and the N.C.R.M.’s true nature, etc. etc.; refers to his thesis; defective guidance from the top without emphasis on the right things, etc.; the absolute primacy of formation stressed by the Hierarchy in Australia and Pius XI and problems in the organization (co-operative policy advised whether appropriate for the group or not, help needed from HQ; groups collapsing as soon as set up); his plan involving a lot of work for him and his Rector’s scruples that his activities fall under the ban of the Provincial (has prepared a document of defence), his activities being seen as interfering with teaching duties in the seminary etc. BAS’s reply, with points of agreement and disagreement (5 pp.), posing and discussing inter alia the important question: Is the Rural Movement to remain ultimately a movement of Catholic Action strictly defined, or is it to find its form in the ranks of social action? Paragraphs in both letters are marked. B.A.S. invites Warren to the next National Executive where these things can be discussed.

Warren’s reply to BAS, 17 Oct. on what can be done while on supply and expanding his ideas; the need for the Convention to settle the end to be pursued. HQ does not know what is going on.
