Scope and contents

Minutes of the Terang Regional Committee, 20 Nov. 1952, including the Dalvin Lane group’s report on “a calf-raising project for land settlement”. Correspondence between B.A.S. and Pat Bourke, Boorcan via Terang, 9 June 1953 – 5 Oct. 1953, concerning the “Calf-Raising Scheme”. Bourke’s earliest letter seeks official sanction for the scheme which has been taken up as a project in his district, being based on the provision of heifers cheaply to Soldier Settlers by the Soldier’s Settlement Commission. B.A.S. congratulates the group but following the advisory committee’s meeting suggests modifications and seeks Bourke’s opinion. Terang Regional committee meeting minutes, 20 Nov. 1953; copy of the draft constitution of the Western District Calf Scheme drawn up by a committee elected by a general meeting of the Terang region, with Pat Bourke’s letter, 28 Jan. 1954, requesting suggestions for consideration by the Regional Executive before the 14th National Convention where the full scheme can be discussed. John D. to “Bob”, n.d., criticizing aspects of theTerang scheme and concerning the “Hay Project” and future movements; extract from J.T.’s report on the scheme, 27 April 1954; Tom Barker, Port Fairy, (received 10 Oct. 1953), advising B.A.S. that he has the calf rearing plan well underway and would be prepared to be in charge of the plan in neighbouring areas, with Crowe’s reply (the November Bulletin to Groups will contain details of the administrative requirements and the necessary forms). Correspondence of F. Lange, Learmonth, and Crowe, 8, 19, 27 Dec. 1953, 3 Feb. 1954 concerning the scheme with enclosed cutting, Weekly Times, 23 Dec. 1953 ( “Calf Factory keeps up replacement supplies for dairy herds”‘); B.A.S. to Bourke, 3 Feb. 1954: is dependent on experts for advice and has two contrary opinions. Will regard Terang area as the pioneer project and proceed as outlined; would recommend other districts follow if circumstances permit, Calf Scheme is on the Convention draft agenda and hopes Bourke will be there to speak about it; Bulletin for Men’s Groups, Nov. 1953, on the Scheme; National Executive minutes, 8 Aug. 1955 (Campaspe Valley, North East and Terang-Camperdown Regions reports include calf scheme); notice from the Primary Produce Gift Scheme Committee , 3 Jan. 1956, of applications being called for 500 Corriedale Stud ewes donated to the Scheme; further correspondence, financial statements, minutes of the Central Committee for the Scheme, 27 May 1959, annual reports etc. – Nov. 1961. Copy of contract of sale (blank), for 1950’s and 1960’s (both appear to be the same).
