The National Civic Council”; carbon typescript commencing “In 1940 two men, Bert Cremean then Deputy Leader of the Victorian Parliamenty Labor Party, and Bob Santamaria, Assistant Director of ANSCA, in a series of meetings resolved to take some action to resist the growing takeover of the trade union movement by the Communist Party. On the 4th August, 1942, the first meeting of the Catholic Social Movement took place. This body continued in existence and co-operated with the A.L.P. Industrial Groups until they were disbanded. The movement then reformed in 1957 as the National Civic Council” (subject of today’s talk).
