Scope and contents

Director of Catholic Education to Maher, 6 April 1943, acknowledging and commenting on the proposed courses in Secondary Schools on Communism and Social Justice, 6 April 1943; the Director of Catholic Education, Adelaide, to Maher, 20 April 1943, informing him that the Y.C.S. will be “set going” in the High Schools after first term holidays, describes the preparation for this and asks for literature on the Social Studies course for distribution in the schools. ANSCA “Special Course for Catholic Students in Communism and Catholic Social Teaching’, introduction and course outline, Plan for Course and covering circular from the Director of Catholic Education, addressed to “The Reverend Superior” and forwarding the Outline of Topics which he has asked the National Secretariat to prepare, 11 June 1943 (also, draft of the same); Director of Catholic Education’s letter covering a draft circular to Secondary and Technical schools in Melbourne concerning the special course on Communism, 2 June 1943; Director, National Secretariat, to Linehan and Shrimpton, enclosing the suggested programme for the Course and a list of publishers of the recommended books; Bishop of Goulburn’s Secretary to Maher, ANSCA, asking him to supply the syllabus and to supply the course to the seven named, and enquiring about the course based on the “Pattern for peace”, 5 Aug 1943, with reply; further letter from the same asking for a copy of the Study Group outline in connection with the “Pattern for Peace” and informing him that Fr. Moore will send information about the Young Catholic Students’ Movement, 17 Aug. 1943; Director of Catholic Education concerning re-issue of the syllabus on the Church and Communism with any amendments including more detailed suggestions on the positive side of Catholic Social doctrine.
