Scope and contents

Includes original watercolour, pen and ink sketches, and one handcoloured photograph. Some sketches have fabric samples attached. Artists' signatures include 'A.F. 90', 'A.F. 91', 'Arthur Helsby', 'Ulm', 'Wilhelm 79' ('costumes by M. and Mme. Alias, St Martin's Lane'. Printed in Finsbury), and 'Basil Crage [Croge?] 97' (the latter for 'The Bicycle Girl' designs). Costumes are for productions: 'The Tempest', 'Dick Whittington', 'Henry IV', 'Macbeth', and 'The Bicycle Girl' (featuring Miss Barlow); and printed designs from the 'Royal Theatre of Love', Fetter Lane.
