The notes are written in what appears to be a native language of Vanuatu, likely to be Lenakel/Netwar/Nevaar, the native language of the people who lived in Lenakel in the West part of the island of Tanna, where the Patons lived during their missionary work in the New Hebrides (now Vanuatu).
